Graphic Design

Project details

Description

This project supported public engagement for the Oakville stormwater initiative. I designed clear, accessible visual materials, including public meeting boards and outreach assets, to communicate complex stormwater information effectively. The visuals helped guide discussion, improve public understanding, and support informed community feedback while aligning with municipal branding and accessibility standards.

1. Understanding the Objective

The goal of the public meeting board was to clearly communicate complex stormwater information to residents, stakeholders, and municipal staff. I worked closely with the project team to understand technical content, key messages, and public concerns to ensure the board supported informed discussion and engagement.

2. Content Review & Simplification

I collaborated with the content team, reviewed engineering documents, maps, and meeting materials to identify the most critical information for the public. Technical language and dense data were simplified into clear headings, short explanations, and visual summaries to make the content accessible to non-technical audiences.

3. Information Hierarchy & Layout

I designed a structured layout with strong visual hierarchy, guiding viewers through the board in a logical reading flow. Key messages, maps, diagrams, and timelines were grouped into clear sections to help users quickly understand the project background, impacts, and next steps.

4. Visual Design & Branding

The board design followed municipal branding guidelines, using consistent colours, typography, and iconography. I balanced visuals and text carefully, ensuring readability from a distance while maintaining a professional, public-sector-appropriate look.

5. Iteration & Stakeholder Review

I iterated on the design based on internal feedback, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and alignment with project goals. Revisions focused on improving legibility, visual balance, and clarity of messaging for public presentation.

6. Final Production

The final board was prepared for large-format print, ensuring high visual quality, clear contrast, and accessibility. The completed design effectively supported public meetings by presenting complex stormwater information in a clear, engaging, and easy-to-understand format.

Postcard

I designed the Stormwater Fee Feasibility Study postcard to clearly communicate key study information and encourage public participation within a limited space. By prioritizing essential messages, creating a strong visual hierarchy, and following municipal branding guidelines, the postcard delivers an approachable, easy-to-scan design that supports effective community outreach.
